The House Style

GlenDronach matures its whisky primarily in Oloroso and Pedro Ximénez sherry casks sourced from Spain, and distils using traditional direct-fired stills — an increasingly rare production choice most modern distilleries have moved away from in favour of more efficient steam heating. The result is a consistently dark, rich, deeply sherried house style across the entire range.

GlenDronach 12 Year Original

The entry point into the range, matured in a mix of Oloroso sherry and Pedro Ximénez casks. Expect dried fruit, toffee, and a warming spice character — rich for an entry-level single malt, and a clear signal of what the rest of the range builds on.

GlenDronach 15 Year Revival

Reintroduced after a period off the market, the 15 Year Revival deepens the sherry influence further, with more pronounced dark chocolate and dried fig notes layered over the core 12 Year's profile. Frequently cited by reviewers as one of the best value steps up in the entire range.

GlenDronach 18 Year Allardice

Matured exclusively in Oloroso sherry casks, the 18 Year Allardice is often considered the range's most complete, well-rounded expression — deep, rich, and complex without tipping into the more intense, collector-oriented territory of the older age statements.

GlenDronach 21 Year Parliament

The range's flagship age statement, blending Oloroso and Pedro Ximénez sherry cask maturation for exceptional depth — rich dark fruit, leather, and coffee notes with a long, warming finish. Named for the parliament of rooks that nests near the distillery.

Which Should You Try First?

If you're new to heavily sherried Scotch, the 12 Year Original is the right starting point — it's clearly recognisable as the same house style as the rest of the range, at a fraction of the cost. If you already know you love sherried whisky and want to understand what the range is capable of at its best, the 18 Year Allardice is generally considered the strongest overall balance of richness and refinement, with the 21 Year Parliament reserved for when you want to go further still.
