Louis Roederer’s Cristal was created in 1876 for Tsar Alexander II of Russia — the clear, flat-bottomed bottle was reportedly designed at the Tsar’s request, in part so nothing could be hidden beneath a colored bottle, and remained exclusive to the Russian Imperial Court for decades before its first commercial release in 1945.
