Founded as Domaine Mumm in 1979, when the French Champagne house G.H. Mumm sent winemaker Guy Devaux to Napa Valley — renamed Mumm Napa in 1990. It uses the traditional méthode traditionnelle (secondary fermentation in the bottle, the same core process used in Champagne), but because the fruit is grown in Napa Valley, none of it is ever legally labeled "Champagne."
