Don Julio

Founded by Don Julio González in 1942, this is the house most associated with bridging traditional production and modern polish. The Blanco is clean and citrus-forward, while 1942 (an Añejo) is the brand's flagship prestige bottle — smooth, oak-forward, and one of the most requested tequilas in premium bars and hip-hop culture alike.

Casamigos

Co-founded by George Clooney and Rande Gerber in 2013 and sold to Diageo in 2017 for up to $1 billion, Casamigos built its identity on being deliberately mellow and easy-drinking rather than aggressively agave-forward — designed, by the founders' own account, to be sipped casually among friends rather than shot quickly.

Patrón

One of the original brands to popularize ultra-premium tequila in the US starting in the late 1980s, Patrón is known for its hand-blown bottles and consistent, approachable house style across its range, from Silver up through the rare Gran Patrón Piedra.

Clase Azul

The most visually distinctive of the four, Clase Azul is sold in hand-painted ceramic decanters, individually crafted by Mexican artisans — a genuine piece of design as much as a spirits brand. The liquid inside tends toward a sweeter, more dessert-like profile, particularly in the Reposado.

How to Choose

If you want the most traditional, agave-forward flavor: Don Julio Blanco. If you want the smoothest, least assertive sipping experience: Casamigos.
